Volunteer Opportunities

We currently have several different opportunities for volunteers in diverse areas. Whatever your interest, we have a job for you!

Window Restoration, Spring 2017

We still have a few volunteer positions available on one of our larger restoration projects slated for the coming year: the restoration of all of the John Brown House windows, which are in need of some skilled T.L.C.

If you like working with your hands and learning something new, this is a great opportunity. Training will be provided onsite by heritage carpenter Doug Vickers and Project Manager Sherri Koabel.

The project requires a minimum commitment of 2 days per week for up to 4 weeks. If you are unable to make it out for that period, we invite you to sign up for one of the related seminars that we have planned as part of the project. Details will be announced at a later date.

Cleanup Crew

We are are seeking a small group of volunteers to undertake cleanup and caretaking tasks outside (biweekly) or inside (monthly) at the Brown Homestead. It may not be the most glamorous work we do, but it is among the most important part of caring for this important historic site.

Researchers

Research can be very rewarding, but it is often time consuming. It is also a great learning opportunity. We are seeking researchers interested in several areas related to history, heritage sites, genealogy, fundraising and regulatory requirements. Full support and training in research and reporting techniques will be provided as necessary.

Photographers and Videographers

We are seeking photographers and videographers to help document our events, research, tours and ongoing work. Additionally, we are preparing to launch a video series intended to expand our documentation into engaging educational content for distribution on our website, via social media and elsewhere. Having a little experience in these areas is good, but training and support can be provided.

Writers

Telling compelling stories is an important part of heritage preservation work. We are seeking people who can help us inspire and educate our community about its cultural heritage by providing historical articles, covering our events and ongoing work, and providing content for our newsletter.

Community Outreach

Developing relationships and soliciting input from the community is perhaps the most important part of our early stage planning.  As we continue our community outreach in the coming months, we will be hosting a series of events and discussions with different groups within the community to engage their participation in our development.

We are seeking outgoing individuals to help us plan and execute these events. Training will be provided as needed, but good people skills are a must!
