Learn how to trace the history of your property!

Together with the expertise of established local historian Brian Narhi, The Brown Homestead has developed an instructional workshop series equipping historical researchers and genealogists researching properties in Ontario with essential tools and skills.

The Ontario Land Registry: Introductory Workshop Series (Online) is a multi-session workshop geared to providing participants with the hands-on knowledge and resources to conduct historical research of properties in Ontario, including:

  • An overview of Ontario’s land registry system and structure

  • Best practices for using the OnLand database

  • How to trace the history of any given parcel of land from its Crown patent back to the present time

This virtual introductory workshop series takes place over the course of three weeknights. All participants will receive detailed teaching from live instructors, along with downloadable worksheets and resources.

What We Offer

We currently offer three (3) different formats for these Land Registry Workshops.

  1. Live - In Person. Both Introductory and Intermediate - level classes are in development for Fall 2024.

  2. Live - Online. The next live, online Introductory workshop series will take place in early 2025.

  3. Asynchronous - Online. This online Introductory course can be purchased & taken at any time and is currently in development for Fall 2025.
