Jan 2025 Online Classes (Introductory Level): REGISTRATION OPEN

Learn how to trace the history of your property!

Together with the expertise of established local historian Brian Narhi, The Brown Homestead has developed a series of instructional workshops equipping historical researchers and genealogists researching properties in Ontario with essential tools and skills.

What we offer

We currently offer three (3) different formats for these workshops

  1. Live - In Person. Intermediate-level classes took place Nov/Dec 2024.

  2. Live - Online. Introductory-level classes are scheduled for Jan/Feb 2025.

  3. Asynchronous - Online. This online Introductory course can be purchased & taken at any time and is in development for Fall 2025.

The Ontario Land Registry: Introductory Workshop Series (Online)

This multi-session workshop will provide participants with basic hands-on knowledge and resources to conduct historical research of properties in Ontario, including:

  • An overview of Ontario’s land registry system and structure;

  • Best practices for using the OnLand database; and

  • How to trace the history of any given parcel of land from its Crown patent back to the present time.

This virtual introductory workshop series takes place over the course of three weeknights. All participants will receive detailed teaching from live instructors, along with downloadable worksheets and resources.

Location

Online via Zoom. We will send you a link in January, after you have signed up for the classes.

Investment

$50 per person
(includes three workshops total)
