[EPISODE]
EP: ... of course, I was born during the war, so, it was hard to get toys and I remember wanting a doll buggy and they couldn't find one, I guess. And I got a wheelbarrow.
LB: Sometimes, the men would be out in the field working, and the
planes would come in and they'd buzz, they buzz you…
Andrew: Welcome to Season 5 of the Open Door Podcast!
SN: We have new stories, new perspectives, and new voices. We’re still linking history’s continuum to the present day...
AH:… but we’re doing things a little differently.
This season, we’ll be highlighting stories from interviews for The Brown Homestead Oral History Project. We’ll take one aspect of everyday life that tells a broader story of childhood, nostalgia, and rural living that we can all relate to.
SN: That’s the purpose of the Oral History Project - to offer a deeper understanding of life in rural Niagara, including here at The Brown Homestead. Afterall, we were a working farm through to the 1970s.
Memories of everyday life can have meaningful impact. Whether it’s the freedom offered by bicycles, or heating up your socks on the wood stove during the wintertime - we peel back the layers of the stories of the everyday events that we have in common - to reveal the extraordinary in the ordinary.
AH: Listen to new episodes wherever you get your podcasts, and starting this season - you can even watch on our YouTube Channel.
The Brown Homestead is Niagara’s Homestead.
SN: And The Open Door is Niagara’s Podcast.
LB: I hope I didn’t say anything that I shouldn’ve.
SN: I think you've said exactly the things you're supposed to….
LB … So I shouldn't lose any sleep tonight eh.
