New Season, New Opportunity

Every new season presents JBHF with new opportunities and fall is no different. Our projects are always more fun when the community gets involved, so we would like to invite you to join us for the next one!

Our upcoming project is all about community engagement. As an emerging organization, getting to know our constituents and understanding their wants and needs are top priorities for us.

Recently we met with the Friends of Short Hills Park, the volunteer group that maintains the beautiful provincial park right across the street from us and they have kindly arranged permission for us to perform some surveys in the park entrance! The surveys are going to be a very brief (one page, less than a minute), initial outreach to the guests at the park for us to gauge their general demographics and what might bring them over to visit us.

Interestingly, a portion of what makes up the Short Hills provincial park was a part of the original 900 acre land grants that were given to John Brown. We are excited to have the opportunity to explore ways we can reconnect the Homestead to the park through our programing. We already know there are bits of Brown Family history hiding within the park, such as the Brown family graveyard!

We intend to set up a survey booth in the parking lot during three Saturdays in October. For each Saturday we will have two 4-hour shifts. One from 10am to 2pm, and one from 2pm to 6pm.

We are looking for 3 people per shift, so your commitment can be as little as 4 hours on one day, or you can commit to a four hour shift on two or three days!

Our proposed dates are:

Saturday, October 7th
(*Thanksgiving weekend)

Saturday, October 14th

Saturday, October 21st

We may require some contingency dates for inclement weather.

There will be a single, one hour training session on a weeknight leading up to the first Saturday. Snacks and camaraderie will be provided!

If you would like to join us to enjoy autumn’s beauty in Short Hills Provincial Park, please e-mail our Project Coordinator Theresa Felicetti at tfelicetti@jbhf.ca or give us a call at our NEW OFFICE PHONE NUMBER: (905) 328-1646.

We can’t wait to hear from you!
